Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity
As a nominated charity for Edge's 10th Anniversary fundraising initiative, the Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity invited some of the Edge walkers along for a tour. The Edge staff were shown around the facility to see how the donations are spent and how they benefit both the patients and their families.
Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity sits firmly at the heart of the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, raising money to ensure that young patients and their families receive the best possible care and experience.
In 2015 they moved from Yorkhill Hospital to the new children's hospital, and although the name has changed their mission remains the same. Every year they treat 160,000 babies, children and young people.
The charity focuses on 4 key areas;
• Enhanced Medical Equioment
• Innovative Play Programmes
• Family Support Services
• Groundbreaking Paediatric Research
During the tour, the walkers were shown the waiting area designed in partnership with the Glasgow Science Centre which aims to keep all the visitors entertained while waiting for their appointment.
The Edge team also visited the 'Teddy Hospital' that allows patients to learn about their conditions and upcoming treatments in a non-clinical environment by carrying out the same procedures on their teddies first.
